5 years, 18 million.

The pros outweigh the cons here. Brind'Amour is in peak physical condition. He is the Captain and his signing sends a message to the other players that he will remain the pillar of the team for years to come. It also reduces his salary's impact on the cap to 3.6 million per year, which frees up some space to sign some of the other guys. The "risk" is that, as an older player, he will break down or retire before the end of the contract, thus leaving the Canes with a cap penalty for the remainder. It's a risk worth taking.
