ECF - Game 5

What a game! Elizabeth had to give up her ticket last minute because of a stomach ailment, so I went with my friend John instead. Gerber looked lost and gave up his starting job again. I feel bad for the guy, but he had his chances. Lavy gave him an opportunity but he couldn't handle it. Ward came in and played stellar, making many great saves throughout the game.

Big game by Cory Stillman with the overtime game winner. That arena exploded when he scored - my ears were still ringing when I got home. The Sabres carried the first period and dominated the third period and beginning of overtime. Unfortunately for them, they couldn't score on Ward when they dominated play in the third. They had some big time chances in the third and in OT (Afinogenov and Hecht especially).

Buffalo was the better team last night in many ways. This is the first game where both teams played pretty well at the same time, the first time a team won two consecutive, and the first time Buffalo has trailed in a series this playoff season. Game 6 is on Tuesday in Buffalo and should be a great one. Edmonton awaits the winner.

One funny thing from the game. Some of you may know that I sit right by the ref's entrance. One of the guys who sits near me, Tom, gave Devorski a big "You suck" as he was leaving the ice and said something about missing a call. Devorski stopped, looked at him, gave him a smile and a wink, and kept on through. Fairly amusing.
