The Canes cut 15 people today, for a total of 19 in the past two days.
The remaining members of the team:
Goaltenders: Cam Ward (30), John Grahame (47), Michael Leighton (49)
Evaluation: Two spots for three guys. Cam has the starting job, obviously. Common wisdom says that Leighton will be starting in Albany. Personally, I think he has outplayed Grahame, but the common wisdom will probably prevail in this case.
Defense: Glen Wesley (2), Dennis Seidenberg (4), Frantisek Kaberle (5), Bret Hedican (6), Niclas Wallin (7), Mike Commodore (22), Brett Carson (33), Tim Gleason (42), Noah Babin (43), Casey Borer (53), and JD Forrest (71).
Evaluation: With injuries a concern, I imagine we'll carry eight defensemen. Wesley, Kaberle, Hedican, Wallin, Commodore, and Gleason are your starting six. Seidenberg is most likely seven, leaving one spot; the word is that Carson is eight, but these things can change in the span of a few days.
Centers: Matt Cullen (8), Eric Staal (12), Rod Brind'Amour (17), Keith Aucoin (37), Jeff Hamilton (51).
Evaluation: If Aucoin makes the team, it won't be as a center.
Wings: Justin Williams (11), Ray Whitney (13), Brandon Sutter (14), Andrew Ladd (16), Ryan Bayda (18), Trevor Letowski (19), Scott Walker (24), Erik Cole (26), Craig Adams (27), Trevor Gillies (32), Patrick Dwyer (39), Jakub Petruzalek (56), Chad Larose (59), Cory Stillman (61)
Evaluation: Willie, Whitney, Ladd, Walker, Cole, Adams, Larose, and Stillman are the primary eight forwards. LaRose is hurt, so that leaves one spot, filled by Letowski or Bayda at this point. We still have room for one more forward, max (assuming LaRose goes on IR). Regardless, Sutter, Gillies, Dwyer, and Petruzalek are going down.
