In the 2005-2006 season, despite playing well all season long, it was like pulling teeth to get any respected hockey journalist to put the Canes anywhere decent in the weekly power rankings. One good week and the Canes are consensus top 5 (2 at TSN, 4 at CNNSI). It's just interesting how the shift in perception helps.
Instead of having to prove they're worthy, now they have to prove they weren't a fluke two years ago and people are willing to listen.
